16 Sleeps to Christmas – but also 15…!

Two Christmases?! Shut the front door!!

I am of course a Brit living in Sweden – it’s been 15 years since my first Christmas in Sweden. We visited Swedish family and spent a lovely time with them doing all the Swedish traditional stuff – on the 24th!!!!! Who does that?! Well, a lot of people, actually. And they do it really well haha!

But what’s more exciting than Christmas? Two Christmases! So of course, as soon as we got back to our apartment in the city, I did a whole English Christmas with as many of my own traditions as I could. Ok, it was mainly food related – honestly, it’s like my body clock is set for my annual dose of stuffing and Yorkshire pudding!

As an immigrant to this fantastic country, I think it’s so important to embrace the awesomeness of the Swedish, which includes their traditions. But I’ve come to realise it’s also important to exert my own cultural heritage. And, when it comes to Christmas, I can’t leave anything out!

We’ve tried out so many ways to celebrate the holidays whilst giving both Swedish and English traditions a fair shake. Then, when we became parents, we decided to give in to it and have 2 Christmases! So, Santa comes down the chimney in the night and leaves presents to open on the morning of the 25th, and Tomten also comes and knocks on the door after dinner on the 24th with a bag of presents which his trusty goat helped him to carry.

Amazing what kids will get onboard with when there is a sack of presents involved hehe!

Two Christmases can involve a bit more preparation than a ‘regular’ Christmas, but it’s so worth it. And I’ve cleared all my jobs and I’m making time for a bit of Christmas sewing – more on that next week.

If your own Christmas sewing could use a boost from quick Christmas projects, don’t forget my free patterns which are waiting for you to download.

The Moonstone Handbag is a very quick sew and a beautiful everyday tote/shoulder/crossbody bag. For gift bags and caddies, have a look at the Astrid Scandinavian Heart Bags or the Ellis Storage Bags if you haven’t already.

And you are welcome to join me for my daily live opening of my bag making advent calendar while you are relaxing!
