What’s included in the course fee
Bag making kit – set yourself up for success with this kit. It contains everything you need to make a bag to take home, as follows:
- Perfectly coordinated external and lining fabrics (premium 100% quilting cotton)
- Zipper tape
- All hardware *The finish on all pieces of hardware and zipper match perfectly
- Interfacings
- Stabiliser
You will have access to cutting and ironing equipment, threads, etc
Full day of in-person instruction and help
Pdf version of the bag pattern to use at home. Pattern includes templates for a pouch version of Alva.
Morning and afternoon fika with cake and fruit
What we will cover during the workshop
During the day, we will work step by step through the bag-making process and cover all the skills you will need to be able to confidently make a bag at home, which includes…
- Introduction to the pattern and finished bag
- Overview of the materials and how to prepare them
- Preparing zippers and pulls
- Assembling the bag
- Tips and finishing touches
For this full-day, in-person workshop we will be a small group (maximum 6 students). So, you will have plenty of time to ask questions, get individual help, and build confidence as you sew.
Is this workshop right for me?
This workshop is ideal if:
- You are confident filling bobbins, changing needles, threading your machine, etc. This workshop is great for beginner bag makers but not ideal for beginner sewists.
- You want to learn transferable bag-making techniques
- You enjoy small groups and individual guidance
- You want to sew with like-minded people
What to bring
- Your own sewing machine (in good and safe working order)
- Pins, seam ripper, any tools you prefer to have to hand
- An empty bobbin or two – coordinating thread will be available for you to use
- Needle/s – I recommend universal 80/12 or microtex 80/12
- Your own lunch – a fridge and microwave are available, or there is a Circle K and pizza restaurant close by
