  • Cutting equipment, including rotary cutters and large cutting mats
  • Pressing and fusing equipment, including wool mats, irons, pressing cloths, etc.
  • Hardware installation tools

What we will cover during this weekend workshop

During our two days together, we will work step by step through the bag-making process and cover skills you need to confidently complete these projects and transfer to other projects you make at home, which includes…

  • Introduction to the pattern and finished bag
  • Overview of fabrics, stabilisers and interfacings how to choose them and how to prepare them
  • Preparing zippers and pulls
  • Assembling the bags
  • Installing hardware – tools, tricks and tips to achieve a professional look and add durability to your new bags.
  • Tips and finishing touches

For this two-day, in-person workshop we will be a small group (3-6 students). So, you will have plenty of time to ask questions, get individual help, and build confidence as you sew.

What should I bring?

  • Your own sewing machine (in good and safe working order)
  • Bring your choice of exterior and lining fabrics for your bag (see ‘Project Supplies’)
  • Pins/clips, seam ripper, any tools you prefer to have to hand. Some of these things will be available for you to use, but please bring anything specific to your machine (bobbins and needles).
  • Needle/s – I recommend universal 80/12 or microtex 80/12.
  • Your own lunch – a fridge and microwave are available, or there is a Circle K and pizza restaurant close by

Is this workshop right for me?

This workshop is ideal if:

  • You are an experienced sewist who is confident operating your own machine.
  • You want to learn transferable bag-making techniques
  • You enjoy small groups of like-minded people and individual guidance
